Pens imprinted with your logo or website address can be a powerful advertising technique. Try leaving them anywhere there is a community 'pen cup' for customers.
This can include checkout lines at stores, doctor or dentist offices, bars and restaurants and more.
A good place to shop for inexpensive promotional pens (which doesn't require massive orders) is eBay.
Keeping with the summer/beach theme, the 'Adapt a Beach' program lets you put your message in front of beach-goers and fight pollution and littering at the same time. Or Beach n Billboard will actually imprint your advertising message into the sand!
These are umbrellas that can be imprinted with your advertising test or graphics.
If there are restaurants or bars in your area with outdoor patios that are in dire need of some new patio umbrellas, why not approach the owner with an offer? You will supply new umbrellas (with your ad on them of course) for free in return for the advertising!
Smaller beach or personal umbrellas can also be imprinted. A cheap way to display your product or website address on a crowded beach or during a stroll in the rain.
Traditional radio advertising is beyond the economic means of many small marketers, however there is the option of advertising on internet radio.
Ebay will occasionally have listings which offer an internet radio ad for under $100. That probably would'nt buy a word on a mainstream AM or FM station.

Promotional bookmarks are essentially business cards in bookmark form. If your customers are heavy readers, the bookmark will keep your product, service, or cause details right in front of their eyes, unlike a standard business card.
Since the cost of basic bookmarks is only slightly more than business cards, they are one of the least expensive promotional items available.
Bookmarks can be standard paper, or more expensive products like magnetic bookmarks, rulers, or magnifying bookmarks.
Some ideas for using bookmarks include:
Place the bookmarks in books at your local library. Select books that users of your product might read.
Inquire at your local bookstore about letting you place your bookmarks in their books or on their checkout counter. Small bookstores will probably be more receptive to this than the large chains.
Leave bookmarks around universities and college hangouts in your area.

If you send a lot of mail (snail mail, not the 'e' kind), why not take advantage of the opportunity to help brand your business and maybe attract a few more customers?
Some ideas include, adding your business card to letters, using a custom rubber stamp to imprint your envelopes, or to make a real impression…why not buy customised postage stamps with your logo or product photos.
One marketing idea for those who commute or otherwise spend a lot of time on the road is using magnetic vehicle signs. It seems like it would be one way to put your business name in front of a lot of eyeballs for very little money. I found one site that has prices starting at $9/sign.
For this to be successfull, I’d think you would need to have a fairly memorable business name (or website address), as few people are going to pull out a pen and paper just to copy down your sign information!
Let's face it, marketing your product or advertising your business is not easy. Good advertising is not cheap, and expensive advertising is not always effective. This blog is created as a way of brainstorming new, different, unusual, free, and other effective ways of advertising and marketing.
